How to Avoid Cramps:
- Some simple exercises can help in avoiding cramps by improving blood circulation.
- Lie down on your bed and lift one leg and try to stretch your foot.
- In the same position, rotate your foot in anticlockwise direct and then in a clockwise direction.
- Follow the same with the other leg.
Constipation is yet another common problem in pregnancy. It happens due to hormonal changes in the body during the early stages of pregnancy.
How to Avoid Constipation:
- Eat high fibre fruits and vegetables to regulate bowel movement so that stools can pass easily.
- Follow a regular workout regimen to keep the muscles toned and active.
- Iron supplements can cause constipation, so avoid them. Ask your doctor to offer you any other suitable supplement, if possible.
- Take lots of water to keep your body hydrated and avoid cramps.
Excessive Sweating or Feeling Hot
The hormonal changes during pregnancy can make you feel hot and sweat more. This happens because of the increased supply of blood to the skin.
How to Avoid:
- Switch to organic or cotton clothing and make sure to wear loose and breathable clothes.
- Keep your water bottle handy and stay hydrated.
- Keep the fan or room cooling switched on.
- Avoid going out in the sun.
It is usual for a pregnant lady to feel faintish. This again happens due to the hormonal changes. This faint feeling implies that your brain is not getting enough blood and oxygen supply. Faintness feeling occurs mainly when you are done taking a bath, lying on your back or standing up suddenly, etc.
How to Avoid Feeling Faint:
- Do not get up or stand up suddenly.
- Do not stand for long durations, prefer sitting in between.
- Prefer sleeping on your side when you feel like fainting lying on your back.
Also, it is advised to avoid lying on your back after 28 weeks of pregnancy as it may cause chances of stillbirth.
Frequent urination begins during the early phases of pregnancy and may continue until childbirth. It is caused due to the pressing of the bladder from the baby’s head.
How to Avoid Frequent Urination:
- Avoid consuming liquids before sleeping, however, keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
- Sometimes rocking forward and backward while sitting on the toilet seat helps in controlling this feeling.
At times, women feel pain while passing the urine, it can be due to urine infection, consult your doctor in this case. Drink lots of water to ease the pain and avoid taking any medication without reaching your doctor.
Varicose veins mainly occur in legs which causes the veins to swell. This problem may cause some discomfort but it is not harmful. This problem can even take place in the vulva or vaginal opening, but it gets better after the childbirth.
How to Avoid Varicose Veins:
- Avoid sitting with legs crossed.
- Do not put much stress and weight on your legs.
- Do not stand for long durations.
- Keep your legs a little higher than your body while sleeping, this can be done by placing a pillow under your ankles.
- Follow leg exercises which will help in improving blood circulation such as swimming and walking.
This is a temporary yet common problem among pregnant ladies. During incontinence, it sometimes becomes difficult to avoid sudden peeing, a small leak or spurt while laughing, coughing and sneezing, etc. This happens because the muscles around the bladder get relaxed a little before delivery.
How to Avoid:
- One can do some pelvic exercises. Contact your doctor to advise you.
- Consult your doctor for more suggestions.
Change in Skin and Hair
The hormonal changes in pregnancy can make your body undergo some changes linked with skin and hair. This includes the change in colour of your skin, the occurrence of patches, moles, marks and freckles, etc.
These changes start to fade away when the baby is born. However, it’s vital to keep your skin safe and protected during pregnancy as it is much susceptible to damage due to sun rays and pollution, etc.
Your hair too gets affected during pregnancy. You may notice an increase in hair growth in pregnancy, the hair texture also becomes oily. But after the baby is born, you may start losing extra hair which grew while you were carrying.
Back pains and aches are common to occur during the early stages of pregnancy. This happens because during pregnancy the ligaments become soft and get stretched to prepare for the delivery, this puts stress on your back, pelvis, and joints which can lead to backache.
How to Avoid Back Pains:
- Do not lift anything heavy.
- Wear comfortable and flat footwear.
- Always split the weight when carrying something like shopping or grocery bags.
- Try to keep your back straight and well supported while sitting or working.
- Take enough rest.
- Get some massage to ease the pain.
- Use a comfortable sitting and sleeping mattress.
Nausea and Morning Sickness
Morning sickness and nausea cannot go unmentioned when it comes to common problems during pregnancy. This problem can knock at any time of the day and may also stay all day long in some cases. Morning sickness and nausea start during the early stages of pregnancy and stays until 16 to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Consult your doctor in case you are not able to cope up with this problem and if you see any of the below changes.
- Excessive abdominal pain.
- Change in colour of urine turned dark in colour.
- Bleeding while peeing.
- Loss of weight.
- Feeling weak and dizzy.
